Hanoi West Lake - Easy Walking Route: Tran Quoc Pagoda, One Pillar Pagoda

#2024TravelReview There are two famous lakes in Hanoi, Vietnam, one is the #Huanjian Lake in the old city, and the other is the #West Lake in the north. Since the hotel we stayed in was right next to the West Lake, we arranged a short walk around the lake, mainly crossing to the small island in the lake to the other side. Goldfish Island is the only island in West Lake. A road is built at both ends of the lakeshore to connect them. It is the shortest shortcut. There are several scenic spots and temples on the island and along the way. The following are recommended: ✓#Tran Quoc Temple The only temple on Goldfish Island is said to be the oldest Buddhist temple in Vietnam. It has a towering pagoda and numerous Buddha statues and niches. In the courtyard there is a Bodhi tree with heart-shaped leaves, which was a gift from the President of India to the Tran Quoc Temple more than 60 years ago. It has now become enormous. ✓#One Pillar Temple The official name is Yanyou Temple or Lotus Platform. The name comes from the fact that there is a large stone pillar in the Lingzhao Pond, on which is built a lotus platform, which is small, beautiful and quite peculiar. Other attractions include Zhenwu Temple, Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Former Residence. If you are tired, you can take a break at the famous local hipster cafe Cong Caphe. #VietnamTravel #HanoiAttractions #HanoiWestLake

Tran Quoc Pagoda

Spiritual Serenity by the Lake at Chua Tran Quoc 🧘♀️🌅 Chua Tran Quoc is Hanoi's oldest pagoda, perched gracefully on West Lake's edge—a peaceful haven, perfect for soaking up tranquil vibes. It’s a “must” if you love history, Buddhist culture, or postcard-worthy lakeside views. Start your morning with a stroll along Đ. Thanh Niên under towering palms and snap that classic shot: the pagoda reflected on mirror-flat West Lake (best angles are from the lakeside walkway just outside the grounds). Once inside, wander the pagoda’s courtyards—lush with centuries-old bodhi trees, intricate statues, and vivid prayer flags. Take a moment to quietly watch local worshippers, or softly join in with incense offerings for luck. Essential to know: Chua Tran Quoc opens daily from 07:30–11:00 and again 13:30–17:00. Arrive early for peaceful scenes and softer morning light. Dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees), as this is an active place of worship, and mind local etiquette—keep voices low and photos discreet inside. Precautions: Hanoi can be hot and humid! Bring water and wear a hat. Watch your step on old stone paths—they can get slick after rain. Personal tip: I found Chua Tran Quoc very welcoming and nice—don’t rush! Take time to sit quietly by the water for a real taste of Vietnamese serenity. #Hanoi #TranQuocPagoda #WestLake #VietnamTravel #CulturalGem
