On April 25, 1882, at exactly 8:15 AM, the French army attacked and approached the Hanoi Citadel. The people of Hanoi bravely fought back, repelling the French forces and forcing them to retreat and reinforce their troops. However, in the tense situation, an explosion occurred, allowing the French army to enter the citadel. Governor Hoang Dieu, unable to defend the citadel, dismissed his generals, apologized to the king, and then tragically committed suicide. This place holds a painful history. However, today, one side of the citadel is located on one of the most beautiful streets in Hanoi. Especially in autumn, the sunlight slanting through the leaves of ancient crocodile trees dancing below creates a beautiful picture.
