Tran Quoc Pagoda Hanoi

As the most sacred ancient pagoda in Hanoi, Tran Quoc Tu is always crowded with Buddhists and visitors coming to visit and worship. The 1st and 15th of every month are the two times when the most visitors come to the temple. In addition, Lunar New Year is also the time when people gather at the temple. According to historical records, Tran Quoc Tu was built during the Early Ly Dynasty, the 6th century. Originally, the pagoda was named Khai Quoc, located on a land of Yen Hoa village, today's Yen Phu village. In 1440, King Le Thai Tong changed the name of the pagoda to An Quoc with the wish of a peaceful and lasting country. In the reign of King Le Kinh Tong, ie 1615, the pagoda was moved to Yen Phu dike area, rebuilt on the old foundation of Thuy Hoa palace of Ly dynasty and Han Nguyen palace of Tran dynasty. In 1639, Lord Trinh repaired the three-entrance gate and built corridors on the left and right sides. The pagoda was named Tran Quoc from the reign of King Le Hy Tong. At the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty, the pagoda was embellished on a grand scale, casting bells and adding statues. In 1821, King Minh Mang reigned and gave the pagoda 20 taels of silver to restore and expand. In 1842, the pagoda was given a large gold coin and 200 mandarins by King Thieu Tri, and renamed Tran Quoc Pagoda to Tran Bac. However, people still used to call this temple by the name Tran Quoc and keep it to this day. Over time, Tran Quoc Tu has been successively embellished, renovated and added to many items, bringing solemn beauty to the thousand-year-old ancient pagoda.#vietnam #trip #vietnamtravel

Spiritual Serenity by the Lake at Chua Tran Quoc 🧘♀️🌅 Chua Tran Quoc is Hanoi's oldest pagoda, perched gracefully on West Lake's edge—a peaceful haven, perfect for soaking up tranquil vibes. It’s a “must” if you love history, Buddhist culture, or postcard-worthy lakeside views. Start your morning with a stroll along Đ. Thanh Niên under towering palms and snap that classic shot: the pagoda reflected on mirror-flat West Lake (best angles are from the lakeside walkway just outside the grounds). Once inside, wander the pagoda’s courtyards—lush with centuries-old bodhi trees, intricate statues, and vivid prayer flags. Take a moment to quietly watch local worshippers, or softly join in with incense offerings for luck. Essential to know: Chua Tran Quoc opens daily from 07:30–11:00 and again 13:30–17:00. Arrive early for peaceful scenes and softer morning light. Dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees), as this is an active place of worship, and mind local etiquette—keep voices low and photos discreet inside. Precautions: Hanoi can be hot and humid! Bring water and wear a hat. Watch your step on old stone paths—they can get slick after rain. Personal tip: I found Chua Tran Quoc very welcoming and nice—don’t rush! Take time to sit quietly by the water for a real taste of Vietnamese serenity. #Hanoi #TranQuocPagoda #WestLake #VietnamTravel #CulturalGem
