Wuliuxiang Alley by the Dong River

Wuliuxiang Alley is located in the Shangcheng District of Hangzhou, starting from the south at Doufu San Bridge and extending north to Daoyuan Alley. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Wuliu Garden was built here, hence the name. In the past, it was a residence for officials and nobles, and later it became a dwelling place for common people, with many small craftsmen and traders living here. In the thirty-third year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1907), a train station was built inside the Qingtai Gate, and trains entered the city, making this area increasingly lively. In 1966, it was renamed Xia Youyi Alley, and in 1981, the old name was restored. The alley still retains the lane buildings constructed during the Republic of China period, and the Hangzhou municipal government has included it in the conservation plan for historical and cultural districts.
