Wat Ban Pong

Looking for a unique Lanna landmark? Visit Wat Ban Pong! Wat Aranyawas, commonly known as Wat Ban Pong, was established around 1843 by Phra Kruba Jinna. It is a Mahayana Buddhist temple located in Ban Pong village, which was historically a resting spot for horses due to its serene location by the Tha Chang stream, surrounded by mountains and tranquil nature. The highlight of the temple is the Phra That Si Mueang Pong, or the Divine Metal Castle, situated on the hill behind the temple. This is the second metal castle in Thailand and the fourth in the world! It was built over the original stupa to preserve it as a heritage site. Inside the temple, you'll find exquisite Lanna murals, which are significant to local art, as well as the temple's architecture that reflects the deep Buddhist faith of the Chiang Mai community.
