Renting Costumes for Photos at Wat Ton Kwen

Wat Ton Kwen, also known as Wat Inthrawat, is an ancient temple in Chiang Mai. Currently, it is an uninhabited temple without resident monks. Located in Nong Kwai Subdistrict, Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai Province, it was originally built as a resting place for the procession of Phra Borommathat Si Chom Thong during the traditional ceremony of bringing the Buddha image into the city. Wat Ton Kwen showcases exquisite and well-preserved Lanna architecture and has been registered as a historical site since 1983. In 1989, it was recognized by the Association of Siamese Architects as an outstanding conservation building. The construction of Wat Ton Kwen began during the reign of King Kawilorot Suriyawong, the 6th ruler of Chiang Mai. The temple's name derives from the "Ton Ba Kwen" tree (known as "Takob" in central Thai). Later, it was renamed after Khru Ba Inthra, a skilled craftsman who contributed to the construction of the temple's viharn. The viharn was built in 1858 and houses a plaster Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya posture. Behind the principal Buddha image, the wall features a niche adorned with metal Buddha amulets. The four-gabled pavilion, unique to northern Thailand, was constructed between 1856 and 1869.
