[Mokuyurin] (Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, former province name: Kaga)

<A "lifestyle farm" surrounded by the nature of Mt. Hakusan, advocating the charm of wood and the circulation of local resources through rich design> If you drive south from downtown Kanazawa toward Mt. Hakusan, famous as a sacred mountain since ancient times, you will enter the "mountain territory" as if you are going up the alluvial fan to its source, while looking at the flow of the Tedori River. With the mountain shape shaped by coniferous forests, the clear air, and the deep blue reservoir lake that suddenly appears at the end of the tunnel, you will witness a landscape that maintains a great sense of unity as if it were directed by a designer. It is not difficult to imagine that behind this is the rich natural environment surrounding Mt. Hakusan and its foothills, the culture of "Hakusan faith" that was formed while being one with nature, and above all, the spirit of the people who want to protect and pass on nature and culture. Mokuyurin is a spot that symbolizes this culture and is attracting attention as a spot that widely disseminates its charm. It is located near Shirayamahime Shrine, revered as the Ichinomiya of Kaga Province (present-day southern Ishikawa Prefecture), and at the entrance to the mountain area that the Tedori River is about to expand into the plains. The facility is produced by Kadonaga Shoten, a local lumber company with a history of about 120 years. The company has been involved with the local natural environment through timber procurement, processing, and furniture manufacturing, and has deeply pursued its actual state and importance. With this history as a background, Mokuyurin opened in 1999 to widely convey the charm of wooden products and "environments with wood," and is now popular as a tourist base with restaurants and shops. Following the signboard and walking from the parking lot, you will see a dome-shaped building at the end of the approach that makes you feel as if you are walking through a cool forest. The design fully feels the unity with the surrounding landscape surrounded by trees, and although it is composed of locally produced cedar wood in an orderly and tightly packed manner, the texture is not stiff. Once inside, the first thing you see is a tree that is soft, yet powerful, towering towards the sky. The circular lawn at its base receives sunlight and spreads warmth, and a wooden staircase that slopes up while maintaining a straight, hard impression. The design highlights the main subject, but is never limited to a single perspective. It mixes hard and soft to give the whole space a sense of momentum, giving you a sense of peace and excitement at the same time. When you enter the shop located halfway up the stairs, you will find an open space that is hard to imagine from the small entrance. Inside the shop, which makes full use of wood and has a well-balanced gradation, there are many handy-sized products such as miscellaneous goods, toys, and tableware made of wood. There is a particularly wide variety of toys, and there is even a space for children to play with them on the spot. Even in the interior other than the products for sale, you can feel the attention to detail in the display, and you can see the model of a "wooden space". Leaving the shop and climbing the stairs, you come across a large tree that pierces the circular hollowed-out ceiling. The shaded base of the tree is covered in dense, green moss, creating a cool space. The contrast between the "yin" and "yang" that it forms with the tree below is stunning, and each embodies the charm of a "tree-centered environment." When you think about it, the building itself expresses the topography and characteristics of the mountaintop and foothills, connecting them with artificial wooden facilities, while the whole structure is enveloped in a large circle. It seems to symbolize the trees that embody Mt. Hakusan's rich natural environment and climate, and the cycle of life. Access: About 30 minutes by car from Hakusan IC Recommended for solo travelers: ★★ (There are a lot of people, but you won't feel out of place even if you're alone) Visit date: Around 2pm on the third Sunday of July #mokuyurin #Hakusan #HakusanCity #IshikawaTrip #IshikawaTourism #ishikawakanko #Hokuriku #HokurikuTrip #HokurikuTourism #architecturelover #architecturetour #famousarchitecture #architecturaldesign #spatialdesign #satoyama #satoyamalife #selectshop #wood #woodprocessing #woodfurniture #lifewithwood #livingwithwood #landscapewithwood #woodcraft #woodtoy #woodtoys #localproductionforlocalconsumption #historylover #solotravel #lifewithtravel

Hakusan Shirakawago White Road

Most people go to Shirakawago to see snow, but unfortunately, we did not manage to experience it :( However, I still think that this is a beautiful place 😍😍 I mean.. love at the scenery, is so colourful! We also got a chance to hike when we visited this place, it’s a easy hike and it’s located at the end of the village! The restaurant here are quite limited and crowded, suggest to pack some small snacks ( can get it from the train station) before departing. I would love to come back again to see the snow one day :)
