Stayed at Hakone Gora Byakudan Ryokan, a lifetime hot spring hotel experience

1. The room facilities are somewhat dated but clean. The bathroom space is average with no bathtub. Avoid leaving windows/doors open at night – mountain insects, you know! 2. Private in-room hot spring: Spacious enough for two 1.8m adults, perfect for honeymooners. Not recommended for winter nights. The outdoor setup makes entering/exiting chilly. If you're severely insect-phobic, avoid nighttime soaking as visibility is poor. Water quality feels excellent – no strong odors or sticky after-feeling. 3. There's a cold water tap to adjust temperature before entering. Never jump directly into the pool. 4. Meals: Includes two meals served in the dining room. Breakfast hours are early (approx. 8:30-9:30am). Delicious Jiangzhe-style light cuisine with abundant variety and filling portions. 5. Service: Basic English available. Staff confirms itineraries during meals and arranges shuttle service if needed. Front desk provides helpful travel advice. 6. Facilities: The lobby's floor-to-ceiling windows are therapeutic. Gender-separated public baths with beautiful pools and complete amenities. Many areas show age, especially massage chairs. Thin walls but guests generally stay quiet at night. Privacy could be better – discovered my room connected to neighbors via the hot spring area. 7. Transportation: Complimentary shuttle to designated Hakone stations. Official website directions are confusing for first-timers (will post my Tokyo-to-hotel guide later). Hakone trains are slow – allocate extra travel time. Recommend one suitcase per person for easier mobility. 8. Complimentary snacks/drinks: Check-in dessert – pretty but mediocre. Public bath snacks are average. Free alcohol/tea in the lobby. In-room beverages include delicious ramune soda. Absolutely worth visiting!
