Choanji Temple

This is a very special place. We toured the small park next to the temple for almost 2 hours in the rain. We could not get enough of the more than 200 statues in the park. The over two hundred statues of rakan (disciples of Buddha) scattered around the temple grounds. The statues began appearing in the 1980s and have been accruing ever since. Each statue has a unique face and shape. The temple itself is also well worth a visit. There is no information in English available. Behind the temple is a local cemetery also well worth a visit. To find this place get off the bus at Sengoku (仙石) bus stop. From there it is a 2 min. walk. In 2024, I want to visit this place again. #2024wish
