Former Residence of Bi Hongshu, Ganpu, Haiyan, Zhejiang

The Former Residence of Bi Hongshu, located at No. 19, Beixiao Street, Ganpu Town, is also known as "Nianyuan". It was built in the Qing Dynasty, with a three-bay brick and wood structure, covering an area of nearly 300 square meters. The building is deep and layered, with windows that can be opened to allow air circulation. The rooms are separated, providing privacy for residents. It is a key cultural relic in Haiyan County. Bi Hongshu, a native of Ganpu, was a seal carver and calligrapher during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. He was skilled in poetry and calligraphy, especially in seal script and clerical script. He spent four years revising and printing the incomplete manuscript of "Liushu Tong", making it a valuable tool for Chinese calligraphy and seal carving. "Liushu Tong" has been reprinted many times and holds an important position in the field of Chinese calligraphy and seal carving. After the publication of "Liushu Tong", Bi Hongshu continued to revise and supplement the book, but passed away before it could be reprinted. Decades later, his grandson Bi Xinghai revised and supplemented the book, and compiled "Liushu Tong Zhi Yi" in the sixth year of Jiaqing (1801). Bi Hongshu and Bi Xinghai devoted a lot of effort to the creation of "Liushu Tong", a masterpiece that has been passed down through generations. Their dedication to the book has become a legendary story in the literary world.
