In ancient times, Haisalt County was deeply affected by the tide, the Qiantang River channel changed frequently, and the lives and property of the people were threatened from time to time. The abbot of Tianning Temple, Master Chushi, vowed to build a tower to suppress the sea, so 'building a tower to suppress the sea' was put on the agenda. It must be mentioned that during the construction process, every brick of the Haizhen Tower was recited by Master Chushi with a roll of Great Compassion Mantra on his head and knees, and the red words 'One round of Great Compassion Mantra' were written on the brick as a proof. After hard fundraising and planning, it took twenty-nine years for the Haizhen Tower to be finally built, but the fate of this tower is really bumpy. During the Kangxi and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty, the tower was destroyed twice by fire. At the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, it was attacked by the Japanese army and suffered two shellings. Under heavy damage, it was scarred. Later, it faced the challenge of strong typhoons. It seems that the fate of this tower is not in repair, or on the way to repair. Fortunately, after 'repairing the old as the old', the basic appearance of the ancient tower is preserved today.
