Hengdaohezi Town is a "Little Russia" built 100 years ago by the East Qing Railway (Middle East Railway). It was once known as the "Garden Town" and still has 256 Russian-style buildings built between 1901 and 1905. The town receives heavy snowfall in winter, which lasts for a long time, giving it a unique exotic charm. Oil Painting Village (Old Street): The yellow houses covered in snow look like fairy tale cottages from an oil painting. There are also adorable Russian nesting dolls. Church of the Assumption: Now the Middle East Railway Museum. The main structure is made of original wood and is in the shape of a Greek cross, with an authentic early Russian architectural style. The retro blue-green color is stunning. Hengdaohezi Station: A must-see place, a century-old station with exotic charm. Standing on the second-floor railing feels like traveling back in time. Dongshan Slope: From the Sui-Man Highway, you can overlook the entire village and watch the sunset. Middle East Railway Locomotive Depot: It consists of 15 garage doors in a row, with arched doors, brick walls, and iron roofs. The unique architectural style makes it the only relatively well-preserved fan-shaped steam locomotive depot in the world. Wang Luobin Memorial Hall: Located at the back of the locomotive depot, the architectural structure here is even more exquisite than the front. When the wind blows the snow off the roof in the sunlight, it's breathtaking. Railway Crossing: The thick snow on the ground and roof makes it feel like you're in Kamakura when a train passes by. You can take photos on both sides of the crossing. Trains pass by at irregular intervals, so you can ask the staff nearby for more information. Specialty Food: Northeast cuisine, such as tendon pancakes, sauerkraut, chicken stew with mushrooms, and specialty drinks like sea buckthorn juice and blackcurrant juice. Wild vegetables, such as dandelion, nettle, and hazel mushrooms, can be served cold or in soup, with a unique taste. Accommodation Suggestions: There are many homestays in Hengdaohezi Town. The peak tourist season is from December to February, so it's recommended to book in advance. If you can't find a room, you can also stay in Hailin City or Mudanjiang City, which are about 10-20 minutes away by high-speed train.
