Hengdaohezi, a less-known small town

Hengdaohezi boasts a long history and cultural lineage. Its development was spurred by the construction of the Middle East Railway in 1897. From the time of the Russian management of the Middle East Railway to the Japanese puppet regime period, the town was bustling with merchants and lined with tall buildings, earning it the nickname 'Garden Town'. Thanks to its unique Russian cultural resources, Hengdaohezi enjoys a certain degree of fame both in Russia and domestically. The province's wooden Orthodox churches, Middle East Railway engine sheds, and the Dabailou are all well-preserved, with nearly 200 Russian-style buildings remaining. Among them, there are 104 municipal-level protected buildings and 5 national-level protected sites. Newly established attractions such as the Middle East Railway Transportation Museum, Oil Painting Village, Still Photo Gallery, Wang Luobin Memorial Hall, and the CCP Hailin Party History Memorial Hall greatly enrich the tourism resources of Hengdaohezi Town. Today, the Hengdaohezi Russian Town Scenic Area has been approved as a national AAAA-level scenic spot.
