Gwangyang Maehwa Festival 🌸 is highly recommended to visit during early spring. The southern part of South Korea warms up faster, meaning spring arrives earlier than in Seoul. The first flowers to bloom are the plum blossoms. This festival is held annually, but the exact dates vary each year depending on the blooming period. It takes place in Gwangyang city, South Jeolla Province, usually around the second week of March. The Maehwa or plum blossoms cover the mountains and villages, making it feel like stepping into a painting. The real scenery is even more beautiful than the pictures. Besides flower viewing, the festival offers a variety of local Korean foods to try, such as bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, and various Korean snacks. You can enjoy walking around and tasting the food. Although getting there can be a bit challenging, especially with heavy traffic during the festival, it is definitely worth the visit.
