The history of the Thirteen Hongs is very familiar to the old Guangzhou people, but the younger generation may not be very clear about it. The glorious history of the Thirteen Commercial Banks began in the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign when the maritime ban was lifted and the Guangdong Customs was established.
