Visit Shamian Island and discover the stories behind the cityscape

1. Transportation: Due to time constraints, we took a taxi from Tianhe District to the outskirts of Shamian Island at 7:30 am and then walked onto the island. Shamian Island is a free open scenic spot, so no tickets are required. 2. Travel tips: We planned to spend half a day there. As we arrived early in the morning, there were not many tourists. We could stroll along the streets of Shamian Island, admire the European-style buildings and beautiful street views, and take photos of the scenery along the way. If it suddenly rains heavily during the tour, you can find a café to sit down and enjoy a leisurely time. 3. Tour route: North Street Entrance - Shamian Park - Former British Consulate - Shamian Christian Church - Former HSBC Building - Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel - Riverside Scenery Belt. - Photo spots: Shamian Clock Tower, Iron Bridge by the Pearl River, Old Trees in Shamian Park, and Various Doors and Window Frames. 4. Tour experience: Walking along Shamian Street is like traveling back to 19th-century Europe. There are more than 150 European-style buildings on both sides of the street, including Neo-Baroque, Gothic Revival, and Arcade styles. Each building seems to have its own story. The British Consulate showcases the culture of the former port opening site, while the unique architectural style and stained glass windows of the Catholic Church reflect religious culture. I admired these exquisite buildings while imagining the prosperity of the past. Shamian Park is a great place to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Pearl River. The river is sparkling, and boats are shuttling back and forth. The skyscrapers in the distance in Zhujiang New Town form a sharp contrast with the ancient buildings on Shamian Island, allowing people to feel the historical changes and modern development of Guangzhou.
