Guangzhou Huaisheng Mosque (also known as Guangta Temple) is one of the four famous mosques established after the introduction of Islam to China, along with Quanzhou Qingjing Mosque, Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque, and Yangzhou Xianhe Mosque. It was built in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of over 1,300 years. "Huaisheng" means to commemorate the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The Guangta (also known as Huaisheng Tower) in the temple is 36 meters high and was once an important navigation building and landmark in Guangzhou. It not only serves religious purposes, but also functions as navigation, meteorological observation, and sea lookout. Huaisheng Mosque covers an area of about 3,800 square meters and is a national key cultural relics protection unit.
