Delve into the ancient village of Shenjing, and experience the simple folk customs

Shenjing Village is located on Changzhou Island at the mouth of the Pearl River. The original inhabitants were the Ling family, who are said to have migrated from Fujian to escape the pursuit of the Yuan soldiers at the end of the Southern Song Dynasty. There is little arable land on the island, and many villagers have always made a living from commerce. Those who made a fortune often invested in the nearby Panyu and Shunde areas, enclosing and reclaiming land (Shatian), thus becoming 'operating landlords'. Shenjing Village has thus become rich and culturally prosperous. Shenjing Ancient Village is one of the better preserved ancient villages in Guangzhou. The village has preserved many old buildings, with a large number of ancient houses, ancestral halls, towers, etc., continuing the consistent style of Lingnan architecture. Different from the Xiguan Mansions, the buildings in Shenjing Ancient Village have absorbed the architectural features of Hakka-style fortresses, Western-style stone pillars, gate towers, patterns, etc. The fusion of various architectural styles reflects people's understanding and expression of different cultures at the time. The culturally rich ancient village of Shenjing, built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, is full of Lingnan-style green brick houses and stone slab streets. The ancient ancestral halls, mottled plaques, and rich Cantonese opera create a strong ancient charm. The Shenjing Wen Tower was built in the Qing Dynasty. The tower is about 18 meters high and is a hexagonal tower-style brick and wood structure. Because Shenjing Village has always valued education and produced many scholars, the tower was built to commend the village's prestige and hope that future generations will 'be better than their predecessors'.
