Thousand Buddha Cliff in Guangyuan.

On the cliffs on the east bank of the Jialing River in the northeast of Guangyuan City, there are densely covered caves of various sizes, stretching nearly 400 meters long and 45 meters high. Although they have suffered great damage, there are still 54 caves, 819 niches, and more than 7,000 statues. This is the largest group of grottoes in Sichuan Province - Thousand Buddha Cliffs, the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The Thousand Buddha Cliff was first excavated during the Northern Wei Dynasty and has been continuously excavated in successive dynasties, with most of the excavations dating back to the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties. It is a concentrated embodiment of historical culture, religious beliefs, sculpture art and tenacious spirit. In front of the cliff is the Jinniu Road built in the Pre-Qin Period. In 1935, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the construction of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Highway, which passed through Thousand Buddha Cliff and blew up most of the caves. After the founding of New China, National Highway G108 still passed in front of the cliff until 2009, when it was changed to a tunnel behind the mountain. Over the past thousand years, Thousand Buddha Cliff has recorded historical stories, gazed at the waves of the Jialing River, and witnessed the changes of mountains, rivers, and vegetation. However, it could not withstand the erosion of time, wind and rain, and human damage. It has lost its former glory and beauty, leaving people with endless remembrance and reverie. Standing facing the river, the Jialing River is green and calm after the rainy season. A high-speed train passes by on the opposite bank every few minutes, and occasionally a long freight train runs by. A highway bridge and the Jialing River Bridge span the river side by side. The Beijing-Kunming Expressway, Guangyuan Ring Expressway, G108 National Highway and other expressways converge on the east bank of the river, with constant traffic. A wind turbine for generating electricity stands proudly on the top of a mountain a little further away. It's a thriving scene.
