🏝The Thousand Buddha Cliff is located 4 kilometers north of Guangyuan City, on the east bank of the Jialing River, on the ancient Jinshiu Shudao. It has a long history and exquisite carving skills. The grottoes were first carved in the late Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty, and stopped in the Qing Dynasty. Over the years, a Buddhist stone carving art treasure house has been formed, with a cliff length of nearly 388 meters, a height of 45 meters, more than 950 niches, and more than 7,000 statues. The niches are stacked and distributed, as dense as honeycombs, forming the largest grotto group in Sichuan. The Thousand Buddha Cliff was announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 1961. It is an important part of the Jianmen Shudao National Scenic Area, and it is also the core heritage point of the World Cultural Heritage Tentative List China Shudao Jinshiudao - Guangyuan Section.
