Qolla l-Bajda Battery, Gozo 🇲🇹

Battery Qolla l-Bajda (Maltese: Batterija tal-Qolla l-Bajda or Fortina tal-Qolla l-Bajda) is an artillery battery in Żebbuġ, Gozo, Malta. Built by the Order of St John between 1715 and 1716, it was one of a series of coastal fortifications around the coast of the Maltese Islands. It remained in its original form until the late 1970s, when it was converted into a disco and snack bar known as the Rook (after the chess pieces) and underwent major changes to the battery. The building is now derelict and in a state of disrepair, and is currently in the midst of a legal battle between the government and a private company. - Battery Qolla l-Bajda is one of two surviving batteries on Gozo, the other being the Battery of Saint Anthony in Qala, not far from the northernmost point of the island, Point Reqqa, and is therefore the northernmost fort in Malta.
