Piast Castle in Gliwice

Currently, after a thorough revitalization in 2008, the exhibition halls of the Piast Castle present collections from the following departments: archaeological, historical and ethnographic. The archaeological exhibition is mainly the result of excavations carried out in the cemetery of the Lusatian culture in Świbie, in the Old Town in Gliwice, in the castle in Toszek and in the settlement in Pławniowice. Currently, there is a temporary exhibition presenting artefacts obtained as a result of archaeological excavations in the Gliwice poviat. The historical exhibition is also very diverse. We can see memorabilia of the Gliwice guilds, items related to the Silesian Uprisings, the plebiscite or the activities of the Union of Poles in Germany, as well as a rich collection of photographs. Curiosity is aroused by the collection of militaria from the countries of ... the Far East. In the ethnographic part, we will find ourselves in a Silesian kitchen and a room - with the decor of these rooms typical of this region, characteristic of rural and urban houses of the first half of the 20th century. The exhibition is complemented by unique, archival photographs from the Museum's collection, which are an extraordinary document of people's lives, customs, as well as huge changes taking place in Upper Silesia from the end of the 19th to the mid-20th century. #polandtravel #poland #castle
