Gliwice Palm House

The Gliwice Palm House is located within vast Chopin Park, between the Kłodnica river and the Kłodnica Canal. Its origins date back to the late nineteenth century. Its heyday fell on the 20s and 30s of the last century. Currently, the Palm House is a modern institution, an exotic oasis in the center of the industrial city. In addition to tropical plants and cacti, one can even see here infamous piranhas or dangerous reptiles. In the glass halls there is a place for palm trees, succulents, useful plants and orchids. In 1925, a 120 square meter pool was built for water hyacinths and one of the largest aquatic plants - victoria regii. In the following years, aquariums, terrariums, aviaries and cages for monkeys were built. Thanks to this, the Palm House in Gliwice has become a destination for trips from all over Silesia. The Palm House was destroyed in 1945. It was rebuilt practically from scratch. In 1998, modern greenhouse facilities were put into use. Currently, the area of the Palm House is 2,000 square meters; the tallest building is 22 m. In four thematic pavilions we can admire exotic plants, tropical plants, succulents, and in the historical pavilion - palm trees, including 120-year-old Canary phoenixes. In recent years, four huge aquariums have been created in which the ecosystems of the Amazon, Lake Tanganyika, the Asian and Polish rivers have been recreated. #poland #polandtravel #palmtrees
