Moorish Castle in Gibraltar

If you buy a day ticket you can visit all the sites on the rock which is well worth it. The best route is to start from Main Street and use the Castle Steps. Although the walk to the castle is tiring, it is worth it and the view from the top of the mountain is beautiful. The castle was originally built by the Moors during their occupation of Gibraltar and dates back to the eighth century. It was a strategic fortress guarding the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. The exterior architecture shows both Moorish and Spanish influences. Although its interior has been damaged over the centuries, the castle still stands as a testimony to Gibraltar's rich history.
