Gejiu, a Treasure Town, the "World Tin City" on the Tropic of Cancer

When talking about Yunnan, most people only know Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La and Xishuangbanna, but few people know about this small town across the Tropic of Cancer. It is called Gejiu. We came to this small city during our self-driving tour in Yunnan. 📍Gejiu, located in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, was once the "Tin Capital of the World" and had China's first private railway. Gejiu has a profound history and unique culture. The flowers on the roadside are all loaded in mining carts. Not only can you clearly understand the evolution of Xidu culture, but it also hides many first-class cultural relics! No reservations needed, closed on Mondays. ✅Half Mountain Cable Car🚡 Navigation: Xinyuan Hotel, this is just a convenient means of transportation up and down the mountain, and it only costs 1 yuan one way. It's super retro and you can go up to see the city scenery. ✅Gejiu Station and the former site of the railway company These two places are next to each other. The railway station has now become a parking lot, and taking photos depends entirely on luck. The railway company is now a French restaurant with an exhibition hall that is free to visit even if you don't make a purchase. ✅Jinhu Park There are scenic spots along the way around the lake, and every step can capture the harmony between the city and nature. ✅Laoyinshan Scenic Area You can take the cable car at Baohua Park (25 yuan one way, 40 yuan round trip). You can also drive up there (very far, not recommended). You can overlook the whole city from the top of the mountain, and you can also climb to the top of the Vajra Pagoda. The ticket price is 6 yuan. 🏨Accommodation Recommended accommodation around Jinhu Lake, around NT$100. 🍧Food Recommendations ✅Chadian Fresh Milk Bar: Milk liquor is a must, the milk here is very rich. ✅Baxi Restaurant: It is located on the edge of Jinhu Lake and has many varieties of dishes. Cold chicken, small meat skewers, and rice rolls are must-try. ✅Xidu Restaurant: The signature dish is the large steamed dumplings with soup, which have thin skin and large fillings. Many locals come to eat here, and there are also various rice noodles.
