Art and Tea Mountains in Hanxi Village, Jingdezhen

One stop on the Fuliang Day Trip is Hanxi Village. Known for its rolling tea plantations, Hanxi Village features wooden walkways that lead to the summit of the tea mountains. From the top, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the cascading green tea fields interspersed with golden rapeseed flower fields. Amidst the wave upon wave of tea mountains, you'll also find unexpected artistic touches. These are the result of the 2021 "Art in Fuliang" project, which combined art with the rural landscape. More than 20 art installations are scattered throughout the fields, buildings, forests, and distant mountains, waiting to be discovered and admired. When you're tired from walking, find a local farmhouse and enjoy a cup of Fuliang tea with a traditional fireside tea brewing experience. 🔥Art Appreciation: 1⃣️ "Light of the Earth" The iconic light art installation in the Hanxi Village tea plantation is "Light of the Earth," designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong. Many people come here to admire this beacon of light atop the tea mountain. Inspired by the natural terrain of the tea fields, the designer integrated the shape of the installation with the curves of the mountain. This allows the often-overlooked tea mountain landscape to "float" in the air as an artistic form, becoming a visual focal point. Located at the highest point of the tea mountain, the installation is enclosed by a circle of white translucent film, enveloping several coniferous trees at the summit. A viewing platform is situated at the base. During the day, it resembles clouds nestled among the mountains; at night, it transforms into a "lighthouse," with the silhouettes of trees interwoven with light. 2⃣️ "Ladders" As you drive along the mountain roads, another unique scene unfolds. Created by Italian artist Paola Pivi, the work consists of numerous ladders erected in the tea fields, creating a distinctive contrast against the lush green backdrop. 3⃣️ "Toasting" Walking to a small tea garden, you'll find an installation in the center called "Toasting," by David Gerstein. Resembling two teacups with saucers, the colorful steel bars evoke the warm sentiment of shared moments. With tea fields as its backdrop, Hanxi Village uses art to awaken memories of the countryside, making it a unique travel destination where nature and culture intertwine. As you drive into the mountains, you might glimpse a colorful house nestled in a distant valley. Art permeates every corner of Hanxi Village, offering delightful discoveries at every turn.
