Yabu - A Local Eatery at the Foot of Mount Fuji

Since we weren’t particularly interested in trying houtou, a specialty dish of Yamanashi Prefecture near Mount Fuji 🍜, and didn’t want to queue at trendy restaurants around Lake Kawaguchi, our guide recommended Yabu, a local eatery in Fujiyoshida City, where we could experience authentic Japanese set meals. Upon entering, the staff warmly guided us to our seats. The restaurant was bustling with people, and it seemed like most of them were locals rather than tourists. It’s true that finding a place where locals dine often requires recommendations, as online information tends to focus on popular and Instagram-worthy spots. We chose to sit on the tatami mats. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. If you need hot tea 🍵, you can help yourself at the water dispenser near the entrance. The seemingly simple pork cutlet rice bowl was incredibly delicious, especially the thick pork cutlet, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The seasoning of the rice bowl was also excellent 😋. Sometimes, simple and well-executed dishes can satisfy a traveler’s taste buds. The menu also includes other options like tempura rice bowls, soba noodles, and udon noodles. Highly recommended for those who want to skip the queues at famous restaurants and experience authentic Japanese set meals.
