The people of Foshan, with a sense of national crisis, changed it from 'Auspicious' to 'Awakened' due to the dialect homophone of 'Auspicious' sounding like 'sleep', implying the awakening of the lion and the spirit of the nation, and to invigorate the spirit with drumming. From then on, "Where there are Chinese, there must be Awakened Lions", becoming an important ritual to promote the might of the nation and establish the spirit of China!
