2 Days 1 Night Family Trip to Bashang Grassland! Worry-free and Money-saving Complete Guide

Last weekend, I took the kids on a spontaneous grassland trip! We left Beijing at 7 AM on Saturday and arrived at a homestay in Datang Town, Fengning, at 11:30 AM. After dropping off our luggage, we had a local lunch and headed straight to the Seven Color Forest at 1 PM! 📍Seven Color Forest is perfect for lazy parents to stroll with kids! The 158 RMB combo ticket is totally worth it! It includes a small train, rail car, and horse carriage, so hardly any walking is needed. The park is huge; we watched the Forest Tribe show, the kids fed sika deer, camels, and alpacas, and even saw chubby marmots!! We played until 5 PM and didn’t feel tired at all~ 🌄The free sunset view at Cloud Grassland is amazing! We originally planned to pay 100 RMB to enter the scenic area to watch the sunset, but the security uncle said you can watch the sunset anywhere on the grassland! We drove around and went to whichever hill had more people, and we really saw the sunset. You can drive right up the mountain, and just need to climb to the top. Be sure to get there before 6:30 PM to grab a good spot; sunset is around 7 PM. The wind at the top is very strong! Remember to bring a jacket! 🍖Dinner in town with roasted lamb leg was so fragrant! I recommend the roasted lamb leg set at "Datang Town Food Street"—crispy outside, tender inside, full of meaty aroma. After dinner, we realized a downside: fireworks go off until midnight! The soundproofing is poor, so light sleepers should bring earplugs!! 🦌On the second day, we headed straight to the Wetland Deer Park! The Royal Deer Park Wetland next to the homestay is only 39.9 RMB per person, very reasonable! Two adults and one child got one free horse ride and two mountain bike rides! Other facilities are unlimited. The kids played for 2 hours and didn’t want to leave! ⚠️A painful lesson returning to Beijing: At 1 PM, we went to Liushugou roadside (the entrance to Cloud Grassland) where there was a big herd of cows perfect for photos! But you must leave before 3 PM! Otherwise, the Beijing checkpoint is a nightmare… We were stuck in traffic for over 2 hours and didn’t get home until 8 PM😭 📌Useful tips: 1️⃣Big temperature difference between morning and night! Bring short sleeves + jacket 2️⃣Arrive at the mountain top before 6 PM to watch the sunset! 3️⃣Choose homestay rooms carefully, avoid street-facing rooms! Bring earplugs! 4️⃣Children ticket policy: free under 1.2m, half price above 1.2m 5️⃣Be aware of heavy traffic at Beijing checkpoints after 4 PM! Return early! The grassland is truly beautiful! Every photo looks like a Windows desktop background~ Except for the noise at night, everything was perfect! Hurry and take your kids there!
