Fengjie | Qutang Gorge

| Qutang Gorge. ◾️Qutang Gorge starts from Baidi City in Fengjie County, Chongqing in the west, and extends to Daxi in Wushan County, Chongqing in the east. It is renowned for its majestic and precipitous scenery. Qutang Gorge is located opposite Baidi City, separated by the Yangtze River, facing Baidi City from afar. You need to take a ferry at Zhongyi Ferry to cross over, which is a very short distance and takes only a few minutes. ◾️At the western entrance of Qutang Gorge, Baiyan Mountain towers over the south of the Yangtze River, and Chijia Mountain stands majestically to the north. The two mountains face each other, creating a narrow opening in the sky, forming a gate-like structure, hence the name Kui Gate, historically known as Qutang Pass. The cliffs on both sides of Qutang Gorge are sheer and towering, with the great river rushing through the steep cliffs. It has long been praised as 'no place is more perilous than Jianmen, and no place is more majestic than Kui Gate.' ◾️Qutang Gorge is rich in historical sites and concentrated attractions. Upstream at the mouth of the gorge, there are the ancient city of Fengjie, the Eight Diagrams Array, and the Yufu Tower. On the north bank within the gorge, atop the mountain, lies Baidi City, which houses many cultural relics, the thrilling ancient plank road, and the mysterious Fengxiang Gorge. The south bank features walls covered with inscriptions. ◾️Cliff carvings can be seen everywhere along the banks of the gorge, with the most spectacular ones on the south bank. On the sheer cliffs stretching for about a mile, dozens of stone carvings are engraved. The ancient Kuiwu plank road at the foot of the concave stone wall on the north bank leads directly to Qinglian Creek at the border of Wuxia and Hubei.
