The Southern Great Wall in the Secret Land of Western Hunan

🌟The Southern Great Wall, historically known as the "Miao Border Wall," is located in Ala Town, Fenghuang County. It was a military defense structure built by the rulers of the Ming and Qing dynasties to resist the uprisings of the Miao people. 🕙The Great Wall was first built in the 33rd year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1554 AD) and was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. The complete system was formed in the 2nd year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1797 AD). 📍The Great Wall starts from Tingzi Pass at the border of Fenghuang County and Tongren City in Guizhou Province in the south and extends to Magpie Camp in Jishou City in the north, with a total length of over 430 li (about 215 km). The wall is 3 meters high, 2 meters wide at the base, and 1 meter wide at the top. It winds around mountains and crosses rivers, mostly built along mountain ridges, with a grand scale, entirely made of stone blocks. A total of over 1,300 forts, watchtowers, garrison posts, sentry posts, artillery platforms, gates, and gatehouses were built, earning it the name "Miao Border Wall," one of the grand ancient buildings in Chinese history. In April 2000, experts from the Ministry of Construction and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage conducted a comprehensive survey and confirmed that the Western Hunan Border Wall is part of the Ming Great Wall. The main attractions include ancient border walls, forts, watchtowers, garrison posts, sentry posts, artillery platforms, gates, gatehouses, and various relic sites.
