Arriving at the foot of the colossal Christ the Redeemer statue on Almada Hill by the Tagus River, I felt anxious, eager to catch the setting sun. The elevator to the tower only accommodated a limited number of people, and after a tense wait, I finally entered the open sky. Fortunately, the sun had already set, but its afterglow lingered for me. Standing on the tower's observation deck, the colossal statue of Christ the Redeemer overwhelmed me. His arms outstretched to the sky, his presence radiant with peace. Breathing in the warm daylight, I felt a sense of peace. The beige marble statue, once ablaze, was bathed in golden light as dusk descended, illuminated by the pedestal's illumination. From the perspective of a painter, this illumination was not mere light, but a perpetual spectrum of light, breathing life into the image of Christ. Especially in the subtle moments when the blue dawn and the yellow artificial light intersected, the particles of light seemed alive, as if a thick oil painting had been layered over them.
