Fengxiang Academy: Ancient Charm Under the Ginkgo Trees

When I first arrived in Fengyu Town, I was immediately captivated by its tranquil atmosphere. Surrounded by mountains and babbling streams, the town feels like a paradise far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world. Walking along the cobblestone paths, flanked by the simple and elegant Bai architecture, I could occasionally hear the distant barking of dogs and the laughter of children. Everything seemed so harmonious and natural. As I stepped into Fengxiang Academy, a sense of awe washed over me. The academy was founded in the fourth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1726), nearly 300 years ago. It is located in the center of Fengyu Street in Fengxiang Village and was originally the Fengxiang Confucian Temple before being converted into an academy. Upon entering, I was greeted by a tall archway with a plaque inscribed with the traditional Chinese characters for "Fengxiang Academy" hanging in the center, exuding a solemn and ancient charm. Inside the academy, I felt as if I had traveled back to a time when scholars in long robes recited their lessons. The architecture is simple yet elegant, with gray-white stone piers, red lacquered columns, double eaves, and upturned eaves. Every detail speaks of the passage of time and the rich cultural heritage. I wandered through the academy, savoring the historical depth and unique cultural atmosphere. What impressed me most was the 300-year-old ginkgo tree in the academy. As the autumn breeze gently swept across the mountains and lakes of Dali, the ginkgo tree quietly donned its golden attire. In late autumn, the tree turns a brilliant yellow, and the ground is covered with fallen leaves, resembling a beautiful painting. Standing under the ginkgo tree, with the dappled sunlight filtering through the golden leaves, I felt a mysterious connection with the tree, the land, and the history. While at the academy, I also visited the Folk Culture Exhibition Hall and the Red Book House. The Folk Culture Exhibition Hall showcases the history and folk culture of Fengyu Town, giving me a deeper understanding of the town's history and culture. The Red Book House promotes the spirit of the times and serves as a rallying point for the local people. These exhibitions and activities not only allowed me to appreciate the charm of traditional culture but also made me cherish my current happy life even more. At Fengxiang Academy, I met some like-minded friends. Some were tourists from various places, while others were locals passionate about culture. We strolled, chatted, and took photos together, sharing our feelings and experiences. This interaction and exchange made the trip even more meaningful and unforgettable.
