Hulunbuir Ka Line: The Most Beautiful Border Defense Highway Lives Up to Its Name

On the crest of China’s rooster-shaped map, National Highway 331 is like a shining string of a zither, tied along the Erguna River, playing the epic of the China-Russia border. It passes through the boundless forest sea of the Greater Khingan Range, where golden autumn birches dress it in colorful robes; it winds beside the mighty Heilongjiang River, dancing like a silver snake with the frozen river surface in winter. Due to road construction, we had to pass Jiuka before 7 a.m., so we set off from Shiwei at 5:30 a.m. As expected, it did not disappoint—everything was worth it, with a new scene at every step, making us reluctant to leave each stop. This is not only the geography’s latitude and longitude but also a spiritual bond. It connects silent outposts with exotic customs, witnessing the loyalty of border guards and the grandeur of nature. Riding here feels like traveling through a gallery of friendship between two countries, with the magnificent mountains and rivers of our homeland on the left and the vast charm of Russia on the right. National Highway 331 is a legendary sky road carrying the feelings of homeland, natural wonders, and a hymn to peace.
