Naturally formed basalt stone pillars stand on both sides of the canyon, which is very spectacular. These Xuanjie stone pillars are hexagonal, columnar and flat, all formed by natural weather. Basalt is lava from volcanic eruptions that quickly cools, shrinks and splits into polygonal columnar structures. Most structures are hexagonal, but there are also other polygonal shapes. Over time, the soft strata were eroded away by water flow, glaciers or weathering, leaving behind the hard basalt, thus forming the current basalt Grand Canyon, which is very beautiful. The Harpa Concert Hall in the capital was also built using basalt as inspiration. The attractions are free. It takes 30 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Basalt Grand Canyon. There is a lot of snow in mid-October and the snow is very slippery. You need to be careful when walking. It is recommended to wear anti-ski boots. It is possible to walk down to the bottom of the canyon, but due to time constraints and the ground being too slippery, I did not go down that day, which was a pity. #globaltravel
