Sanjiangyuan, a visitable pristine Tibetan area

Qinghai has five national nature reserves, the largest two being Hoh Xil and Sanjiangyuan. Hoh Xil is currently not open to the public, so Sanjiangyuan can be considered the most stunning pristine area accessible in the Tibetan region. Sanjiangyuan is the source of three rivers of great significance to the Chinese nation: the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang (Mekong) Rivers. The Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve covers an area of 153,000 square kilometers, including most of Yushu Prefecture and part of Golog Prefecture, with eighteen core areas alone. From vast snow-capped mountains, glaciers, rivers, and lakes to rich grasslands, vegetation, and wildlife, it's a combination of purity and wildness. Due to the arduous journey and conservation considerations, most areas of Sanjiangyuan are difficult for ordinary travelers to reach. However, with careful planning, you can still witness the unparalleled scenery of Sanjiangyuan. First, arrive at Zhaling Lake and Eling Lake at the junction of Yushu and Golog prefectures. After admiring the "sky mirror" at Xingxinghai (Star Sea), cross the Bayan Har Mountains. After a short break in Yushu, the capital of Yushu Prefecture, head west to Longbao National Nature Reserve to see black-necked cranes, the provincial bird of Qinghai. Continuing along the headwaters of the Yangtze River, you'll pass through the Yan Zhang Grand Canyon. It's not the end of the world, but it's definitely a stark wonderland. If you're lucky, you might encounter wild animals such as blue sheep and Tibetan wild donkeys. If you're heading to Tibet, continue to Budongquan (Unfrozen Spring), where you can access National Highway 109, the entrance to Tibet. Budongquan is at the border of Sanjiangyuan and Hoh Xil. Standing by Budongquan, you can see Yuzhu Peak and Yuxu Peak, the sister peaks of the Kunlun Mountains.
