With a long history that spans the Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, Republic of China, and modern times, the entire area covers 20,000 square meters. It is the largest and most numerous ancient pagoda complex existing in China, embodying the pinnacle of ancient brick and stone architecture, sculpture, calligraphy, painting, and other arts. It is acclaimed by experts and scholars as an 'ancient pagoda art museum'. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit and was inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage list in 2010. 🌹 Upon arrival, one can see towering cypress trees and pagodas of various shapes and sizes—large and small, thick and thin, tall and short, and even those with lotus throne bases. Their diverse forms and orderly arrangement fully reflect the Buddhist status and prestige of the high monks who passed away. The high-ranking ones are the seven-story ancient pagodas that reflect the seven levels of a stupa in the sunlight, symbolizing boundless merit and benevolence. From a distance, they resemble a dense forest, earning them the name 'Pagoda Forest'. This site holds significant reference value for further understanding and researching the history of Shaolin Temple's high monks, Buddhism, and pagoda culture.
