Take a close look at Hokkaido’s famous active volcano ~ Mount Usu

In the past 100 years, Mount Usu has been observed to erupt four times and is a very active volcano in Japan. The most recent eruption was in 2000. It only takes 20 to 30 minutes to drive from Toyako Hot Spring Area to the cable car station of Mount Usu. There is a parking lot nearby with a parking fee of 500 yen per day. After that, you can take the cable car up the mountain and reach Usu Volcano in about six minutes. The scenic spot has a trail that allows you to walk directly to the Usu crater. Interested travelers can also hike around the crater, which takes about 1.5 hours round trip.
