Located in the central part of the country, near the town of Dambulla, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination due to its rich history, religious significance, and stunning artwork. The Dambulla Cave Temple is easily accessible from Kandy, Sigiriya, and other nearby tourist destinations. It is located about 160 kilometers from Colombo. Visitors are advised to wear modest clothing when visiting, as it is a religious site.
