#OctoberTravelSupport If you're visiting Dalian, China, here's a place you should definitely visit. That's Lushun Prison. Lushun Prison is a historical site where anti-Japanese activists and political prisoners were imprisoned during the Japanese colonial period. It now operates as a museum. First built by Russia in 1902, it was later expanded massively by the Japanese, becoming one of the largest prisons in Asia. Over 20,000 prisoners were imprisoned there. A symbolic space testifying to Japanese atrocities, it's also where Korean independence activist Ahn Jung-geun was executed and martyred in 1910. Currently managed by the Chinese government, Lushun Prison is designated as a "Repository of Imperialist Invasion." The original prison architecture, torture chambers, solitary confinement cells, and workshops are preserved, making it a valuable space for historical education and reflection on the meaning of peace. Perhaps because it's a painful part of history for both Korea and China, most of the explanations were also written in Korean.
