Among the three major fireworks festivals in Japan, the Akita Omagari Fireworks Festival is undoubtedly the most famous one. The event has a history of over 100 years since 1910 (Meiji 43), attracting more than 600,000 people every year. On August 31, 2024, about 18,000 brilliant fireworks will be set off on the banks of the Ōmagari Omonogawa River in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture. The venue is about a 30-minute walk from JR Akita Shinkansen's Omagari Station. Ticket prices range from 7,000 yen for a single seat to 20,000 yen for a front-row photographer seat. Ticket sales are from 10:00 a.m. on June 10 to June 20. The fireworks festival in Niigata Nagaoka is also a grand event, with more than 1 million people participating every year in recent years. This fireworks display is famous for its spectacular scale, including the Shosan Shakudama (No. 30), a 650-meter-long Niagara Falls-like fireworks, the 100-shot continuous firing of the Yamadamas, and the "Phoenix Fireworks of Prayer for Reconstruction" that stretches for about 2 kilometers. It will be held from August 2 to 3, 2023, from around 7:20 to 9:10 p.m. at the Shinano River Riverside downstream of the Nagasawa Bridge in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The venue is about a 30-minute walk from JR Nagaoka Station, and ticket prices range from 1,000 yen for a single person to 6,000 yen for two photographers. The National Fireworks Competition in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki, is famous for its rapid-fire bursts and is known as the best in Japan. Firework artists combine various fireworks to create gorgeous and stunning performances. From 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on November 2, 2024, approximately 20,000 fireworks will bloom in the sky. It is about a 30-minute walk from Tsuchiura Station on the JR Joban Line, or about a 10-minute ride on the paid shuttle bus.
