A Place of Ruins and Renewal – Coventry Cathedral

As I walked through the remains of the old cathedral, still open to the sky, I felt the weight of what the city went through during the war. The broken walls and charred stones have been left as they are—powerful and honest. Right beside the ruins stands the new cathedral, full of contrast. Modern and striking, but peaceful inside. The huge stained-glass windows cast coloured light across the space, and the artwork felt thoughtful without being overwhelming. One of the most powerful moments was seeing the words “Father Forgive” carved behind the altar in the old cathedral. No blame—just a quiet call for peace. If you’re in Coventry, this is one of those places you shouldn’t miss. It’s not just about history, but about how a city chose to rebuild with hope.
