The Philippine Tarsier

When I traveled to the Philippines, I had the opportunity to see the country’s national animal, the Tarsier. I decided to head to Bohol Island, known as the home of the tarsier. After arriving in Bohol, I joined a guided tour that took us to the Bohol Forest Protected Area, one of the main habitats of the tarsier. Once we entered the forest, we were surrounded by the dense canopy and foliage and felt like we were in a fairy tale. In this forest, we finally saw the tarsier. They are so charming, each one is only the size of a palm, with big eyes and long fingers, which is why they got their name. The guide told us to be quiet so as not to disturb them as they are nocturnal animals and usually rest during the day. We carefully observed these lovely creatures, trying not to make any sound in order to appreciate more of their natural behavior. These tarsiers turned their heads and gazed at us from time to time, making us feel very close to wild animals. This trip not only allowed me to get up close and personal with the Philippines’ national treasure, the tarsier, but it also allowed me to experience the natural beauty of this beautiful island. I will always cherish this unforgettable trip and be grateful for the efforts made by this country to protect these precious creatures.
