Chuzhou, February 2025: A Journey Inspired by a Song

This is Langya Mountain…" Ouyang Xiu's *The Story of the Old Drunkard's Pavilion* paints a vivid picture of the beauty of Langya Mountain in Chuzhou, captivating countless people and drawing them to this city. Whenever I hear the song "Zui Weng Ting" (Old Drunkard's Pavilion), the timeless line "The old drunkard's heart is not in the wine, but in the midst of the mountains and rivers" echoes in my ears, and the poetic landscape of Chuzhou becomes even more alluring. In February, despite the lingering chill of late winter, Chuzhou quietly reveals a unique charm. With anticipation for this "jewel of the Huai River's east," I embarked on this leisurely journey😃. 🔵Best Time to Visit Chuzhou in February sees temperatures between 3°C and 10°C (37°F and 50°F). While a slight chill remains, the forests of Langya Mountain begin to awaken, with new buds emerging and the air exceptionally fresh. During this time, the scenic area is less crowded, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the harmonious blend of nature and culture. It's the perfect time to explore Chuzhou✨. 🔵Itinerary D1: Langya Mountain Scenic Area → Sheraton Chuzhou → Hotel (Overnight) Arriving in Chuzhou in the morning, I headed straight to Langya Mountain Scenic Area. Along the winding mountain roads, a light mist enveloped the surroundings, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. My first stop was the renowned Old Drunkard's Pavilion. This ancient pavilion, with its flying eaves and intricate brackets, exudes an air of antiquity. Beside the pavilion, the Brewing Spring gurgles, its water clear and sweet. Sitting in the pavilion, I imagined Ouyang Xiu and his guests enjoying themselves, composing poems and essays, and embracing the carefree spirit of "the old drunkard's heart not being in the wine." In the afternoon, I continued my ascent, admiring the cliff carvings, Deep and Elegant Lake, and other scenic spots along the way. The tranquil mountain forest offered a picturesque view at every turn. In the evening, I checked into the Sheraton Chuzhou, conveniently located and offering comfortable rooms that quickly dispelled the fatigue of the journey. D2: Fengyang Wolf Alley Labyrinth → Ming Dynasty Zhongdu Imperial City Ruins Park → Fengyang International Hotel (Overnight) In the morning, I set off for Fengyang Wolf Alley Labyrinth, where the unique karst landscape has created a wondrous spectacle. Narrow alleys and jagged rocks form a maze-like environment. Inside the underground caves, stalactites of various shapes, illuminated by colorful lights, create a surreal ambiance. In the afternoon, I visited the Ming Dynasty Zhongdu Imperial City Ruins Park. Although time has taken its toll, the remnants of the city walls and palace foundations still convey the grandeur of the capital city built by Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. In the evening, I checked into the Fengyang International Hotel, its convenient location ideal for preparing for the next day's exploration. D3: Chuzhou Museum → Return Trip After breakfast, I visited the Chuzhou Museum, which provides a comprehensive overview of Chuzhou's history, from the origins of civilization in ancient times to the prosperity of the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The museum's rich collection of artifacts and detailed historical records offer an immersive experience. The exhibits related to *The Story of the Old Drunkard's Pavilion* deepened my understanding of Chuzhou's cultural heritage. Afterward, I embarked on my return journey, filled with cherished memories. 🔵Transportation Train: Chuzhou Station and Chuzhou North Station offer frequent services to surrounding cities.
