Chongqing | Chendian Village

| Chendian Village. ◾️Because of a tree, I fell in love with a village. Chendian Village, located in Chenjiaqiao Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing, refers to the old site of Chongqing Huxi Motor Factory. It is named after the Huxi Motor Factory. Chongqing Huxi Motor Factory is a military enterprise established in 1969. It is the only professional motor and electrical appliance manufacturing enterprise of the China Ordnance Equipment Group Corporation and a large-scale national second-class enterprise with strong capabilities. At its peak, it had over a thousand employees. ◾️In the eyes of the locals, this military enterprise was both mysterious and prestigious. In the early days of the reform and opening up, the factory transitioned from military to civilian production. After more than half a century of ups and downs, most of the Huxi Motor Factory was demolished. Later, after the factory moved to Bishan, it gradually faded from people's memory. Now, the residential area is mainly inhabited by some retired old employees who have stayed behind. They have lived here for decades and are reluctant to leave. ◾️Chendian Village is conveniently located right next to Line 1 of the metro. After getting off at Chenjiaqiao Station and crossing the wide avenue, a right turn brings you to this incongruous old street, where the sudden visual contrast is disorienting. On the long path, apart from the occasional visitor coming to take a look, there are almost no passersby. In the village, there is a tall and large Huangge tree. Photos of Chendian Village have circulated online, attracting many people to come and take pictures, making it a new internet sensation and bringing the long-quiet old factory back into people's view. This is a village that seems to come straight out of a Hayao Miyazaki anime. The towering ancient Huangge tree, like a big umbrella, serves as the guardian of the village, quietly embracing every passerby. ◾️Beside the road leading into Chendian Village, there is a clear sign indicating the demolition area. Perhaps soon, this place will become a disappearing image. This is a typical 1970s old community, with most of the residential buildings already empty, leaving only a few elderly residents who are unwilling to move. They and the ancient tree guard this Chendian Village. The elderly who do not want to move may be accustomed to the old houses here, or perhaps the memories here are enough to sustain them for the rest of their lives.
