#VisitChiangRai 🏕 Wat Khua Krae or Wat Mongkhon Thawararam is not clear when it was built. It is assumed to be around 18 - 23 Buddhist years, but the book on the history of temples throughout the kingdom by the Buddhism Division, Department of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Education states that it was built in 1896. 🏞 Khua means bridge, while Krae means bamboo that has been split into small pieces and laid as a floor. Khua Krae also means a bridge with a walkway made of small split bamboo woven together into sheets for walking. 🧱 From the ruins of ancient sites and many bricks in the temple area and nearby areas, it is assumed that it was once the location of a large community that migrated from Sipsongpanna, Chiang Rung, Chiang Tung, Chiang Mai, and Phayao. 🏰 Inside the temple, there is the Phra Maha Wihan Luang Phra Chao Mangrai Maharat, a large and exquisite Lanna architecture. Inside is enshrined the Phra Si Sappanyu Samma Sambuddha. 🛕 Other important and interesting things are the Phra Borommathat Ratchakutakara Luang.
