Wat Umong: 700 years of History

Walk through tunnels worth 700 years of history in one of the pillars of Buddhism in Thailand, Wat Umong. Situated just a kilometer from Chiang Mai University, it’s one of the most significant temples of the Lanna Kingdom in Northern Thailand. Inside it are tunnel networks that pass through the compound where you’ll find statues of Buddha himself. From the outside it is covered with carpets of moss and crowned with a tall structure right over it. Currently it serves as an animal sanctuary and a nature reserve for visitors to see. Visiting the place makes you feel the rich history of the place, it felt so old it’s walls have seen most of history happening in its face.
