The Hantan River is a river formed by denting basalt lava, so a rock cliff 20 to 30 meters high is developed on both sides of the river. So the Hantan River has been a big obstacle to the exchange between the east and the west of the residents since ancient times. The first modern concrete bridge built in the Hantan River Gorge is Cheorwon Seungil Bridge. If you look closely at Cheorwon Seungil Bridge, the shape of the left and right legs is different based on the middle. The reason is that the subject of the bridge is different. The construction of Seungil Bridge was started in August 1948 to secure the Southbed bridgehead under the communist regime, but the construction was stopped when the June 25 war broke out without even half of it. In April 1952, when there was a fierce battle on the central front, the U.S. military engineering unit was put into the Cheorwon Seungil Bridge reinforcement work and completed after five months of construction. In the construction of the Cheorwon Seungil Bridge led by the U.S. military, KSC labor unit members who could not evacuate and remained in the land of Cheorwon were also put in. The construction of Cheorwon Seungil Bridge was originally started under the name of 'Hantan Bridge', but the name was forgotten while it was left unfinished. After the end of the June 25th War, the residents of Cheorwon, who are aware of the construction process of the inter-Korean joint venture, began to call it Seungil Bridge after South Korean President Syngman Lee'Seung (承) and North Korea's Kim Il-sung's 'Il (日)'. Cheorwon Seungil Bridge was registered as National Registered Cultural Property No. 26.
