Chengdu Shu Brocade and Embroidery Museum is a national museum dedicated to showcasing Shu brocade and traditional weaving techniques. It is located on the picturesque banks of Huanhua Creek in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. • History and Background: • The predecessor of Chengdu Shu Brocade and Embroidery Museum is Chengdu Shu Brocade Factory, which has a history of more than half a century. It is now the only venue in China that retains the complete set of Shu brocade handcrafting techniques. • The museum is dedicated to the research of silk and brocade, the protection and reproduction of ancient Shu brocade, and is the largest Shu brocade and embroidery cultural heritage base and research center in China. • Collection and Exhibition: • The museum has a rich collection of cultural relics, totaling 9,373 pieces, including 48 national-level precious cultural relics. • The basic exhibition is divided into six parts: the origin of silk, Shu brocade of past dynasties, embroidery history, Ming and Qing costumes, the evolution of looms, and Shu brocade techniques. • The museum has a large Shu brocade weaving workshop, where multiple small flower tower wooden looms are used to handcraft Shu brocade on-site. In an area of over 3,000 square meters, exquisite Shu brocade and embroidery works are displayed, showcasing a dazzling array of brocade patterns from different dynasties. • Intangible Cultural Heritage: • Shu brocade weaving techniques were included in the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006. • In 2009, the "Chinese Sericulture and Silk Weaving Techniques" jointly declared by Shujiang Brocade Institute and China National Silk Museum was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. • Special Exhibitions: • The museum features the origin of sericulture in Shu, Shu brocade and embroidery from different dynasties, brocade and embroidery costumes, weaving tools, and live demonstrations of brocade and embroidery. • The museum also has a Shu embroidery technique exhibition hall, where national arts and crafts masters demonstrate Shu embroidery techniques on-site. • Address and Honors: • The address is No. 2, Caotang East Road, Chengdu. • In 2008, "Shujiang Brocade Institute" was awarded the titles of "Famous Trademark of Sichuan Province" and "Key Tourism Enterprise of Sichuan Province". • In December 2020, it was included in the list of the fourth batch of national third-level museums. • In August 2024, it was included in the list of the fifth batch of national second-level museums.
