A small town with big history

Charlottesville is a small city in Virginia that is known for its importance in history; notably Thomas Jefferson's imprint on this small town is undeniable. Starting with the main city center itself, it's a lovely small city centered around the University of Virginia, which was founded by Jefferson. The campus is lovely to stroll through and you'll see a beautiful church, green patches of grass, but most importantly you'll find the Rotunda building. This was designed by Jefferson and is a symbol of the university. It is also similar in style to his nearby Monticello. Next up, you'll want to visit Monticello, which was Jefferson's residence and plantation, just outside the city. It is now a museum of sorts that seeks to explain his life and showcase how he lived. The area is beautiful and you won't want to miss the main house. If it looks familiar, it's because it's on the back of the US 5 cents. Monticello is a great place to spend an informative day, while also getting some fresh air outside! Overall, Charlottesville and Monticello is a bit outside of where you'd normally visit.
